1. Fly Ins And Outs
  2. SpamField

Spamfield (Sandown, Isle of Wight) June 12th - 14th 2009

Hi folks, been a bit busy as you can see by these details not being added that quickly. Amy Bolton and I flew down on the Friday arriving at Sandown at 12:40pm after a 2 hour trip and managed to get parked on the front line near the fuel pumps and very near the marquee. Sorry to go on about it but that's the closest I have ever been parked to the marquee, normally we have always been parked right down on the threshold of 23. Lesley and Lucy joined us a short time later as they travelled down by train, fast cat ferry and taxi. We decided not to slum it this year so we hired a caravan from Chiverton Copse, which turned up trumps as our caravan was very near to their bar. As the day went on lots more fixed wing turned up and a small number of flex's. Friday evening was spent in the Chiverton bar where we were joined by the lads and lasses from Hunsdon and the Zoy boys and girls from Western Zoyland. It was a good evening and we didn't have to crawl far to get to the van. Saturday saw the steady arrival of aircraft throughout the day, most trying to get in before the Red Arrow display over the Isle Of Wight Festival. We were all waiting in anticipation for a flyby and then came the call over the radio to fly down the runway at 1200 feet. After a big rush to get a good vantage point, the cameras were out and ready. From what I have seen everybody there must have taken exactly the same photo!! Once the Red Arrows had cleared we thought that it was to good an evening to spend sitting on the ground so Amy and Brad and Lesley and me went for the normal fly up to the needles then back through the centre of the island. After a nice hour of hands off trim flying we returned to Sandown and put the aircraft to bed. PARTY TIME!! The rest of the evening was spent in the marquee with the beer and the old faithful karioke and for us was not that far a walk back to the caravan. Sunday morning saw the normal early morning exodus and it was unusual to see the airfield nearly empty by the late afternoon, did they know something I didn't? Me and Amy left early evening and had a pleasant 1 hour 45 minute flight back to Plaistows, Lesley and Lucy followed home on the Monday. All in all a good weekend although the turnout this year was down a little bit down from last year. Please share your pictures with us and add them to the Album!!
