1. Fly Ins And Outs

Greenefield Vs Spamfield

It's amazing how much we miss Spamfield on the Isle of Wight. If the weathers good there's no better place to fly and this year fly we did. When the family were looking for somewhere to holiday this year my son said he would like to go to the farm on the Isle of Wight as he had seen some of our previous photo's from our earlier visits. I didn't need much convincing, a family holiday with an airstrip on the site oh yes. So a quick phone call to John Craddock and all three caravans were booked for the family. As Lesley doesn't drive we decided to use the same format as last time and take the Flexy on the trailer, the best of both worlds the plane to fly and the car to get about when doing family things. How lucky were we with the holiday looming the weather takes a turn and suddenly we are at the begginning of a heatwave. I phoned John again as I wanted to invite the Plaistows Squadron down to join us for the first weekend and as usual he was very accomodating. He was happy for the others to fly in and camp the Saturday night. On the morning of the 6th July we crossed to the Isle of Wight on the Red Funnel early morning Ferry from Southampton and made our way to the farm. I had just rigged my Flexy when the first aircraft arrived overhead, Barry landed from the south in the Skyranger as it was still very calm. He was shortly followed by the flexwings, three Quantums. Keven in a 582, Richard and Andrew both in 912's all landed safely from the south. A couple hours later the rest arrived a C42, A Ninja and two Eurostars. Rob in the C42 landed from the south but by this time the sea breeze had picked up. Both EuroStars had a go from the south but both made early decisions to go around. Then Ben in the Ninja landed from the north followed by both Eurostars and all three made excellent landings especially as the tall trees on the approach from the north meant a faster landing. Linda and Wayne in the Eurostars were impressive with their airmanship on a difficult airstrip and made really good decisions.
