1. Fly Ins And Outs

Freshwater Fruit Farm September 2009

There’s no better way to have a holiday on the Isle of Wight than at Freshwater Fruit Farm, well for me and Lesley anyway. We were looking for a week away that would involve some R & R and some flying. John and Brenda Craddock set up three caravans at their farm originally for Microlighters so they could come and stay with the added attraction of a base from which to fly. Unfortunately most people only wanted to fly in for a couple of days and only if the weather was suitable. To make the caravans pay John and Brenda changed direction towards conservation of the local wildlife. You can see what Freshwater Fruit Farm is all about on their website http://www.fffiow.co.uk , if you want a quiet and peaceful place to stay this is it. It is a “no thrills” site, no shop, no clubhouse, no swimming pool but there is a nice pub in Freshwater offering good food and drink (which is within walking distance) and a Co-op for all your shopping needs. The pheasants are very tame you can almost feed them by hand and it is nice to see the red squirrels taking nuts off the tables. We decided that the best way to go about getting there was to put the flexwing on the trailer and catch the early morning ferry. This gave us the best of both worlds the flexwing to fly when the weather was ok and the car to get about the island for all the other places we wanted to visit. John has extended the runway and you can normally see him at Spamfield when he flies in with the Dragon. There is also a couple of video clips in this gallery.
